Mix 101

Most of what I am going to include in this document will be geared to the guy mixing his own stuff or the engineer working in the box. Recording and other things will be for another paper. It seems now more than ever, thanks to technology, people are mixing their own stuff. First, people started doing their own overdubs, which led to recording their own stuff, then mixing their stuff. Good or bad, its happening.

I’ve decided to lend a helping hand. I am getting too old to stay up late, act cool, and hang out in clubs. I now work mostly mornings and usually I am done mid-afternoon. People really don’t believe how fast something can be mixed when you know what your doing, but I don’t mind. It adds to the mystique. With some of my tips you will make sense of mixing and become more creative, quicker. The principle is something like this... the best songs write themselves. The best mixes, fall into place.
